EO Grafiska

Throughout the project, Canon provided invaluable advice, insight and guidance. While we knew the broad direction we needed to take — towards a business in which print was just one channel — initiatives such as EBBP gave us tools to develop specific offerings.

Krister Mellström, Chief Executive

Founded in 1984 and based in Skarpnäck, south of Stockholm, EO employs 45 people servicing a broad client base that includes cable network Com Hem, Stockholm Capital, and finance group Nordea Bank. While offset and digital print remain the foundation of the business, EO Grafiska now provides these clients with an ever-expanding range of marketing communications services, from advertising and direct mail campaigns, through IT, photography and film, to cross-media campaign design, execution and measurement.

In 2009 the major challenge facing EO Grafiska was reshaping its digital printing capability. The company was far from being new to digital production (in 2002 it had acquired a local digital print business, and digital print amounted to a significant 25% of output), but over the years investment in digital had not kept pace with the changing requirements of the company’s clients.

The company decided to partner with Canon. During a series of regular meetings — weekly at the outset — Canon and EO worked together to define the company’s proposition to clients and decide on the investments necessary to bring it about. In support of the process, Krister Mellström and other senior managers took part in Canon’s Essential Business Builder Program (EBBP), attending seminars on topics such as marketers’ attitudes to print and how to implement web-to-print. “These were immensely valuable,” says Mellström. For example, although we’d already developed our own web-to-print solution, we gained a wider understanding of how to market the service effectively.”

The “new look” EO Grafiska is a very different business from the struggling print-focused EO of just four years ago — a successful, profitable company with more employees and a portfolio of services that’s right for the market. What started out as a project to revamp the digital printroom has culminated in a revamp of the whole business.

Read the story and find out how Canon helped EO Grafiska to leverage the print, design and IT resources they had to offer new cross-media services to its customers.
