EOS 30V Date

EOS 30V Date: Class leading Auto Focus speed from new Canon

Canon EOS 30V Date film SLR camera has the fastest Auto Focus (AF), fastest predictive focus and fastest continuous shooting speed of any camera in their class. It will track an object closing at 50kph to up to 8 metres from the camera (based on EF300mm f/2.8L IS USM lens) and can fire off 4 frames per second, – considerably faster than their nearest rivals. The EOS 30V Date model features Eye-controlled 7-point wide area AF for focusing based on user eye tracking. The camera are available as body only, or as a standard kit, including a Canon EF28-105mm f/4-5.6 lens.

The satisfyingly robust metal body has been given an ultra matte coating, befitting of superbly specified cameras designed to appeal to serious photographers. The camera features a new distance linked E-TTL II flash system. A high-visibility backlit OLC display provides for checking of settings in low-light conditions.

New E-TTL II flash metering
With Canon‘s dedicated EX-Speedlite range of flash units, the EOS 30V Date employs the new E-TTL II metering system. E-TTL II limits exposure errors by linking distance information to the 35-zone metering sensor readings from the pre-flash. Areas with high levels from reflections are ignored for flash calculation, thus eliminating errors caused by subject reflection. The new system also allows pre-focus to be used to alter composition without risking under or over-exposure caused by not having a subject in the focus point. The new exposure algorithm is also designed to expose white objects correctly, resulting in more natural exposures of objects, such as wedding dresses and china.

Focus and metering
7-Point wide area Autofocus (five horizontal focusing points with two above/below the centre point) ensures focus is rapidly established even when the subject is not centred. The eye-control function of the EOS 30V Date allows users to focus on off-centre subjects simply by looking in the direction of the subject, with no pre-focusing required. 35-Zone evaluative light metering uses twice as many metering zones as competing brands, taking readings from across the entire frame to deliver consistently accurate exposures. An evaluation algorithm identifies and subsequently rejects particularly bright zones. This lessens the chance of irregular exposures and assures balanced exposure – even in difficult light situations.

Quiet and easy
The Film transport, shutter operation and mirror operation noise levels have all been reduced to make this the quietest EOS in the range, while the stylish blue light of the back-lit OLC display will further appeal to photographers shooting in low-light conditions where discretion is required, such as theatre productions. Viewfinder blackout has been reduced to less than 155ms at shutter speeds above 1/60 second.

Flexibility and control
The EOS 30V Date is designed to put control and flexibility into the photographer‘s hands. Exposure modes include Program (P), Shutter-priority (Tv), Aperture-priority (Av) and Manual (M), and Auto depth of field (A-Dep). A-Dep measures closest and furthest focusing points in the frame before selecting the best settings for optimum depth of field. Six PIC program modes include Portrait, Landscape, Close-up, Sports, and Night Scene. Shutter speeds range from 1/4000th to 30 seconds, as well as bulb exposure. The EOS 30V Date allows variable format date and/or time data to be recorded on the negative.

Accessories and lenses
Optional extras include a battery pack BP-300 and a semi-hard case EH-14L. As with all EOS camera, the EOS 30V Date work with any of the dozens of lenses in Canon’s EF range.
